ALPINE GENTIAN Gentiana nivalis (Height to 8cm) is a tiny annual that is easily overlooked when the flowers are closed (they open only in sunshine). The bright blue flowers are 5-8mm across (when open) and often solitary (Jun-Aug). It is a rare plant, restricted to a few Scottish mountains, Ben Lawers being a key location.
