141228 Small Quaker Orthosia cruda Length 15-19mm. A rather drab spring-flying moth of deciduous woodland that feeds on sallow blossom; rests with its wings in a tent-like manner. Adult has grey-buff to reddish-buff wings marked with small dots and a large, dark kidney-shaped spot. Flies March-April. Larva feeds on deciduous trees including willows and oaks. Widespread and fairly common in southern and central Britain; much more local in Scotland.
