FLOWERS are small, 4-parted and greenish; in 8cm-long spikes, on stalks rising above the water (May-Sep). FRUITS are round and short-beaked. FLOATING LEAVES are oval, up to 12cm long; stalk has flexible joint near blade. SUBMERGED LEAVES are long and narrow. STATUS-Widespread and common.
