LEAVES Ovate, to 7cm long, dark green above but glaucous below; note toothed margin and large stipules. Leaves turn black when dried. REPRODUCTIVE PARTS Males catkins are ovoid and yellow, female catkins are greener. STATUS AND DISTRIBUTION Native, favouring damp, stony and rocky ground. A northern and upland species.
