MIRROR ORCHIDOphrys speculumHeight up to 20cm Attractive perennial with colourful and distinctive flowers. Flower spike comprises 2-8 flowers. These have greenish, narrow-oval sepals, often lined with purple. Petals short, hairy and purple; lip is 10-12mm long, 3-lobed with a shiny-blue speculum bordered with yellow and fringed with maroon hairs. Found in open woodland, maquis and garrigue; flowers March to May. Widespread around Mediterranean and locally common; absent Crete and Cyprus.
