Variable, hairy and stiff- and reddish-stemmed perennial that smells strongly of mint. Found On damp ground, sometimes growing in shallow, standing water. FLOWERS are 3-4mm long and lilac-pink; borne in dense, terminal heads up to 2cm long, and a few sub-terminal whorls (Jul-Oct). Flowers are popular with insects. FRUITS are nutlets. LEAVES are oval and toothed. STATUS-Widespread and common throughout the region.
