AUTUMN CROCUS Crocus nudiflorus (Iridaceae) Height to 20cm. Grassland perennial, similar to Spring Crocus but flowering in autumn not spring. Beware confusion with Meadow Saffron. FLOWERS are 3-4cm across (when fully open), violet and veined, with 3 stamens (6 in Meadow Saffron) (Sep-Oct). FRUITS are capsules. LEAVES are narrow with a white midrib stripe. STATUS-Locally naturalised.
