141580 YELLOW STAR-OF-BETHLEHEM Gagea lutea (Liliaceae) Height to 15cm. Delicate perennial that grows damp woodland, often on calcareous or heavy soils. Easily overlooked when not in flower. FLOWERS are 2cm across, yellow and star-like; borne in umbel-like clusters of 1-7 flowers (Mar-May). FRUITS are 3-sided capsules. LEAVES comprise a single, narrow basal leaf with a hooded tip and 3 distinctly ridged veins. STATUS-Local and generally scarce; least uncommon in central England.
