140727 Double Square-spot Xestia triangulum Length 17-25mm. Similar to Setaceous Hebrew Character, wing markings are appreciably different and wings themselves are broader and overlap less when at rest. Adult has brown forewings with two blackish square spots (or this could be described as a dark rectangle partly dissected by a pale circle) and small dark wedge near the tip of the leading edge. Flies June-July. Larva feeds on deciduous trees and shrubs. Widespread and fairly common.
