The stems are rough and triangular in cross-section. FLOWERS comprise a tight, terminal cluster of egg-shaped spiklets, flanked by a long, leafy bract (Jul-Aug). FRUITS are dark brown. LEAVES are rough and keeled. STATUS-Locally common.
